Kindness Kills Callous [Big Boi]
Kindness goes a long way. If I ever remember an encounter with anyone, it is usually the result of an act of kindness.
I knew this kid in college who was an Andre 3000 reincarnate. He had the same voice, same bone structure, same physique, same swag, and same level of eclecticism – totally effortless, not pretentious. He wore a cloth sunflower everyday either on his backpack, his hat, or his shirt. He worked in the dining hall and he was one of the coolest kids I had the honor to know. His name was Mo.
I was finishing up dinner at the dining hall one night during my senior year, and I totally forgot I had no cash to pay for my spot in the parking deck. It was Mo’s shift at work that night so I [almost ashamedly] asked him for a two-dollar loan. Back then, that two dollars was like a saving grace, and he donated it to me without hesitation. Clearly, I haven’t forgotten about his kind gesture.
If you’re wondering if I paid him back, the answer is YES…but he accepted against his will. I’m not sure why this experience means so much to me, but I will say, it challenges me to pay it forward.
